Technical Glossary (1935 terms)

Standardized hardware and benchmark definitions across smartphones, laptops, CPUs, GPUs, SoCs, and tablets.

• Quick Charge 5 — Qualcomm's high-power fast-charging standard supporting over 100 W. [ BATTERY ]
• RAID — Redundant Array of Independent Disks — combining drives for speed or safety. [ STORAGE ]
• RAID 0 — Striping data across drives for speed, with no redundancy if a drive fails. [ STORAGE ]
• RAID 1 — Mirroring data across two drives so either can fail without data loss. [ STORAGE ]
• RAID 10 — A mirrored-and-striped RAID that balances speed and safety. [ STORAGE ]
• RAID 5 — Striping with distributed parity, giving speed and single-drive fault tolerance. [ STORAGE ]
• RAM Size — Working memory for apps; 8 GB is the sweet spot, 12-24 GB for heavy multitasking or gaming. [ MEMORY ]
• RAM expansion — Adding physical RAM, or virtually borrowing storage to extend usable memory. [ MEMORY ]
• RAM usage — How much memory is currently in use versus available. [ MEMORY ]
• RAW Photos — Unprocessed sensor data files that preserve maximum detail for editing. [ CAMERA ]

• RGB — RGB is customisable coloured lighting on gaming hardware. [ GAMING ]

• ROM — Read-Only Memory — non-volatile storage for firmware. [ MEMORY ]
• ROPs — GPU units that write finished pixels to the frame buffer; more ROPs help high resolutions. [ GAMING ]
• RPG — Role-Playing Game — a character-progression genre. [ GAMING ]
• RTX 20-series — NVIDIA's Turing-based ray tracing GPU generation (2018). [ PRODUCT LINES ]
